ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My joy as an artist and painter is playing with and exploring my materials and what is possible with them. I love creating something beautiful and unusual that didn't exist before. I particularly enjoy creating unexpected effects that catch people's attention in that brief moment of surprise and delight when they first see my work.
My inspiration comes from nature, from places in the western US I have visited, the National Parks, a dream, a thought about "what if I. . .", music, meditation, a totally spontaneous happening as I paint or daily life. My paintings emerge from a highly interactive process involving my hands, eyes, the texture, tools and materials I am using, my ordinary self and my Creative Self, my emotions, and what happens on the support itself. Sometimes, as a painting develops, it is almost as though the painting itself is telling me what it wants to be which gives rise to wonderful moments of inspiration - like using my left hand, or a non-traditional color for something found in the "real" world and so on. Painting is a magical experience for me that I love exploring.
My approach is to constantly enhance and become more aware of the creative process itself, to experiment with expression and to explore what is possible with acrylic based materials. It is a full and conscious participation in the ongoing act of creation experienced through senses, feelings and intuitive perceptions.

BIO
I took art (my favorite class) all through high school and for two semesters in college. At that time, I particularly liked working with oil pastels and serigraphy; I had not had any instruction in painting. I won a Bank of America award for a serigraph I did as a high school senior.
My dream of being an artist continued through bachelor and master degree studies and three careers. After many years, I discovered a class in painting using wet on wet techniques and decided to see if I still had any talent in art. I was hooked in my first class! And the instructor was very supportive. Since then I have developed my own techniques using acrylics with special emphasis on texture, impasto, pastes and specialty paints.
I have lived all my life in the western United States and relish the magnificent mountains, deserts and plains of this area.
I show my work mostly in Wyoming and Colorado, receiving several awards for work.
